Hi everyone,
This is my first post so i hope i,ve got it in the right place.
I have a problem with a Discovery 300 (M Reg).
The handbrake is locked on and will not release.
Can i bang the drum with a hammer to release it or is it a complete strip down/repair.:confused::confused::confused:
PLEASE HELP

mine froze on not long ago after a day messing about off road, next morning frozen solid.Outside temp was about -3 or 4

i just rocked it about in 1st low range for a while till it "freed" itself, been fine since, same year and model as yours.

I am not advising such measures just telling you what i did:)

Thanks for all your posts, and i,m now going to go brave -3 and a snow blizzard to try and get them free.:eek::eek:

Tried all of the above and still hand brake is locked solid...
Cant find the adjuster nut to slacken off the shoes so i think i,ll just burn it!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Seems to be a common direction on here:eek::eek:

The adjuster is on the front side of the drum between the backplate and transfer box, i think its a 17mm bolt??

Undo a couple of click and whack the drum with a rubber mallet etc.

Mine sticks sometimes, just cracks when i pull away.

The adjuster nut is on the lower part of the backplate, sunken into a "well" and the size is either 17 or 19mm.
you will find it easier if you *feel* around the bottom of the backplate.

Either the shoes are frozen to the drum (most likely) or the cable has frozen, (you'd feel no resistance when pulling up the handbrake again after releasing it)
