Up **** creek.
Hi ive done a search but still not too sure, the mrs drove the car to town today, she switched the car off but left the keys in the ignition, got out for 2 minutes, got back in and then tried to start the car, the starter doesnt turn and a red light in the shape of a car with a key in it illuminates. Now you also cannot use the fob to lock/unlock the car either, but you can still use the key to lock/unlock.

Ive been to a garage to have the fob tested and they say i have battery and its giving off a signal so maybe the fob has gone "out of sync" with the truck and to get it round to them as they have the "machine" to do it. I went and got my spare key and fob and that didnt work either (although i dont know if it ever has to be fair). Ive also tried swopping the batteries in both fobs.

I have even tried the immobilisor bypass 4 digit code (when you hold the key in the lock position in the drivers side lock for 5 seconds, then turn the key to the lock/unlock position the appropriate amount of times) but that did nothing - not even made a warning sound to tell me i had entered the wrong code.

Ive now phoned the RAC and am waiting for him to turn up, take a look and then inevitably take me to that garage (about 1/3mile) which will be closed by the time i get there.

Im just wondering if you guys could shed some light on the possible problems and cures and give me a few suggestions that we could try if he has no joy? (wire from live to starter?)

Also my other dilema is if it doesnt start how to get it home (about 2 miles) I dont have tow home cover and I have been warned about towing it as apparently its not good for it, (my truck or the puller?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as im running out of ideas and my car is sitting in the middle of town. Broken:(

Thanks:)

I believe with non uk spec vehicles you have to press the 'unlock' button to re-mobilise the engine if you have a dash display as you discribe.
If your fobs are not working then you do have a problem..

Nothing bad will happen if u just find a helpful chap to tow it......u just have to use the handbrake and pull harder the steering wheel(coz the servo systems will not help u).....leave the key on position 1 as to not block the steering and u cant use indicator lights......leaving the contact on could cause damage on petrol car's ignition system.

Or u pay for a trailer................after that find somebody with a proper scanner.

cheers and thanks for your words of reasurance:) its seems to be all sorted for now, the guy arrived, put the key in the ignition and she just started straight up, sods law! i drove home and switched her off, then back on and so forth, took the keys out, locked it with the fob, unlocked it a few times and everything seems fine, for now.....

He is adamant it was an interfering signal probably coming from one of the many wireless broadband hubs located in the estate i was parked in, he said the signal must have gone off again now:confused:

Im gonna get a new battery in the spare fob and get that synced just in case.

Ive heard all sorts about interferance and have even been locked out my own van by a closing garage door before but What do you fellas think? im worried it will konk out on the mrs when shes in the middle of knowhere. Is it worth buying an immobilisor spider off fleabay just in case?

Hi have you got electric windows and are they working?

The reason i ask is the samething happened to my disco 1 300tdi a red warning light with a key in it. But after a bit it started and been fine since only the electric windows have stopped working! Also the central lockings still not working, but engine running fine.

cheers

no everythings working fine on mine now. ive bought a immobilisor spider bypass unit and keep it in the glovebox just in case (about £7 and 15 mins to do).
