After quite a few hours of searching the disco for the real reason for the horrible misfire, lumpy running and total loss of anything that resembled 'power' ......... the fuel pump finally gave up and raised the white flag, owning up to all the problems.
I must say though it's been good to go over the motor and sort a few other things out that would have caused issues later, oil in the loom, chaffing wires etc etc.
Anyway ......... many thanks to everyone who posted to me .........
