Finally got round to blanking off the egr last night - should have done it months ago but blanking plate took 2 weeks to arrive due to guy being on holiday, then it arrived when i was away & local post sorting office couldn't find it , blah blah blah.

anyway it's done now - 20 mins work when i got home last night - took it for a spin & noticed an immediate improvement - then I decided to clean the MAF sensor and checked the air filter .

the air filter was really dirty (despite have only done 5K since 84K service at Stafford Land Rover ) - replaced with £9.99 halfords jobby & WOW - it really goes now, pulls away at junctions & roundabouts much better. I was happy with its performance before ( never really expected it to accelerate like a sports car anyway ) but now it's even better.

just goes to show what difference £15 & 40mins work can make.

Thanks to James W for his excellent tips on EGR plate

nice, was ur inlet manifold full of ****e? might wanna think about cleaing it out if it was, and flushing out your intercooler.

just be aware that you'll probably have to use a new inlet manifold gasket. which involves taking the exhaust manifold off as well and the inlet, they share a gasket etc.

and thats a pain in the arse job if ur doing it with no help.

I had a look in the intercooler hose when it delaminated - full of black ****e. Basically condensed oil and carbon from the exhaust. The more I read about this the more obvious it is to blank the EGR and either clean or replace the intercooler. Logic says it must run cooler, thus more efficient. With the ECU upgrade chip etc you need cooler air for best results. Now, where can I get a blanking plate?

I'm looking into this right now.

I can't remember if it was this or another forum but copied a little how to guide for the 300tdi and at the end was this

"A quick hint for you – buy the EGR plate from Land Rover themselves (ERR4698) It's considerably cheaper than buying it from Ebay"..

Still, I'm sure you'd need a gasket or two aswell wouldn't you?

Can anyone answer that for me? What gasket(s) would I need?

Did mine with a gasket ... gasket paper and an extremely thin smear of blue hylomar both sides.

wat you realy need a good ecu or chip upgrade and a after market bigger inter cooler and air intake i done my p38 and it went like stink
now changed to td5 and going to run same sort of thing on that

sod the paper air flitters, go straight to K&N, did mine some months ago - no other mods and gained about 2mpg and pulls better

why buy a blanking plate when you have a food can lid handy ,undo the two ten mill bolts that secure the egr pipe too the inter-cooler/intake manifold pipe cut a piece of can lid to fit between the two bolts slide it in tighten two ten mills and trim off exes and file edges job done cost £0 done loads of them this way work everytime

My 2006 Discovery is suffering from a lack of power when starting, but the torque kicks in after a few seconds sounds like the EGR Valve. I was thinking of fitting the blanking plates but to be honest a bit nervouse about it, I have been quoted €300 to fit a new valve

The question is, if i fit the blanking plates will it have any negative effects on the engine.
And as there are two fitted hao can i check which one it is.

If I remember correctly, on the Disco 3 TDv6, because it's a v-engine there are EGR valves for each bank ie two of them and I think both would need blanking off.

Don't know what kit you would need though, as my cars are older than yours.

Sounds like you need to get a workshop manual

Ive a Disco1 300tdi 97 still with egr, what do i do regarding the injector pump regarding the fact that my pump has some kind of electronic control to it, anything atall ?

Blanking off still leaves the large lump in the inlet tract, this is why a kit can be better
