Mate of mine has one and for a while the handbrake would suddenly engage for no reason. This was of particular concern to him the time it happened while he was doing 80 on the A30!

I believe there was a recall regarding the park brake by Land Rover so check that the modification what ever it was has been done.
Google for recalls on D3s.

Try searching for a gearshift calibration thread. If the EPB ecu cannot see what gear the car has engaged it will log a fault and put up the park brake fault - even though there is probably nothing wrong with it.
I cant remember the exact procedure for calibrating the x/y pots on the gear lever,I think its something like engage low range and drive through gears 1-6 for so many secs in each gear, then same in reverse.Worth a try before you take the wheels off or pay for diagnosis.

Either the park brake module or wiring to it, not cheap either way, the new modules are on restricted supply as LR are aware that the new ones are still a bit iffy!
Calibration will make no difference, diagnostic will show loss of communications.

Well its worked on others and costs nothing, the one I did was exactly the same, the UCM was able to get comms with it and the recal worked - whats the harm in trying ?

Have you managed to sort this yet ? I had another one in this morning with the parkbrake fault - brake works perfectly. But the gear shift display was lazy, taking several seconds to show what gear it was in.
Looked up my notes and did the recal,in low range drive for more than 10 secs in each gear from 1-6 then reverse.(Done in low range cos its slower.)Switched it off for a little while to let all the ecu's to shut down, then fire it up.The gears show instantly and the park brake fault message was gone and the lamp went out.
One happy customer, one happy me - cos I hate working on the sh-te.

Bugger off spammer, unless you want phone calls 24/7 from people ordering pizza and cocaine.
