Hi all, recently suffered an oily handbrake on the Disco, changed the seal and the shoes as per previous threads; but less than 4 weeks later same problem re-occurs. Just a crap seal?? or could it be a sign of deeper gearbox woes??? Any thoughts appreciated:(

the transfer box out put brg stc1130 ,could be worn check it for movement shaft will move a bit as is a ball brg, garter spring often comes off during fitting if not held by vaseline or such, seal contact surface on flange often worn seal position can be moved so running on fresh surface or flange replaced, sometimes just poor replacement seal, breather on hi/low housing blocked, especially plastic extension pipe, where it runs up back of head

Have now been running for about 9 months with a viton seal and absolutely no problem so just assume that the first one was crap quality. I used the weeks before I got round to it, soaking and burning the oil out of the otherwise good original shoes. Its not recommended for wheel brakes because if you don't get it all then in use heat very soon releases the rest and you lose your brakes.... but in normal use a handbrake doesn't get hot and its been great.
