Morning, Sorry if this is a bit of a stupid question, I have a Disco 2 Td5 year 2000. And I have located the OBDII port but for some reason my OBDII reader does not work with the land rover :( does anyone know if this is a common fault or is there a specific OBDII reader i require just to give me any fault codes.

Cheers James

Hi James, it is unlikely to be a fault, it's just that generic code readers don't usually access the systems on Land Rover products very effectively.

You really need something like Hawkeye or Nanocom. New ones costs between £250 to £330.

You don't say what system on the car you are trying to access? There are numerous different ones.

Cheers for the advice to be honest the OBD2 reader I have is from a previous car I had and was handy just for fault finding codes just a basic gneric reader and basic fault code reset.

Don't suppose anyone local to Henfield, West Sussex, has one they could plug into my Disco 2 and see if it throws up any error's specifically possible ACE problem has I have horrible whining noise, and noticed the fan belt has started to shred on one side, got new belt and tensioner on order but want to see if any fault codes throw up anything, cheers james

If the fault you want to rectify James, is the noisy shredding belt, I would be inclined to take the belt off and check all pulleys for free-running and play/wear.

U will not find logged codes from ACE if u dont have warning on dash(sometimes u dont find even if u have)...except some engine management/injector related issues which will not help u to get rid of the wining...i'd go on thebiglad's advice.

Right Chaps,I removed the shrdded belt today, I checked all the pulleys and all good no in out play or side to side play, I also replaced the ace pump and bleed the ace system.

I replaced the belt with new and also replaed the tensioner aswell, whilst I was playing with the Disco 2 I done the EGR mod.

Now the whine has gone but I still have a noise, when I turn the steering wheel slightly to the right I get a strange sound
