Hi all, when i attach my caravan single electrics for the caravan lights, the trailer light on the dash does not illuminate when the indicators are used.
Is it the same as my Disco1, where i had to replace the indicator relay with the relay with the 2 extra pins to operate the light?

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Dave, I thought mine wasn't working as I couldn't see anything until I realised that the steering wheel was hiding the light - it's in the top right corner.

I have found the light and it doesn't work when the caravan electrics are plugged in. Gonna have a look at the relay and see if it is the same as the original relay in my Disco 1......If it is i am gonna take the towing relay out of my Disco 1 and try it in my Disco 2 and see what happens lol.......Standby for updates lol

Checked Disco1....and found relay. Checked Disco2 and its a totally different set up on the fuse box.....Time to refer to the manual me thinks.

Of course............on D2 that fookin' BCU is involved:eek:....the system is based on the additional current draw detected by him:doh:...........they overcomplicated a simple matter:mad:

Hi sierrafery, the light does its selftest when you turn ignition on. 3 second illumination and then goes out. Then when the caravan is plugged in and the indicators selected, the light does not flash on either direction.I have had this problem before but it was a long time ago with a Ford Galaxy. Whoever has fitted the electrics to the back of the car has also fitted an indicator buzzer, which buzzes as an audible warning device for when the indicators are used with the caravan. If i remember correctly, this takes away the additional ampage draw from the indicator circuit and therefore the trailer light does not flash with the indicators. If i remove this buzzer it should allow the additional ampage draw on the indicator circuit to be picked up by the BCU and allow the trailer light to flash when the caravan is attached..Gonna give it a try, will keep you informed

tested wiring on the electric socket fitted to the car.Wiring all ok,will be fitting a new socket and new tow ball all the same. Removed indicator buzzer and made good the wiring connections. Attached caravan electrics socket for the lights and if by magic the tow light flashes with the indicators.
Car still meets with EU towing regulations as you either have to have an indicator failure audible warning device OR an indicator failure visible warning device...NOT BOTH

We've recently had a similar problem, but mine's a D1. Turned out to be a chaffed wire shorting out.

I'd also check/remake the battery earth to the body.
