Has anyone outhere had any experience with this problem?
Driving up the motorway yesterday and the tacho shot round to 3000+ RPM with no drive. Pulled over and phoned the AA. Man appears and points out that one of the feed pipes from the auto box to the oil cooler has come off (the one at the battery side). He also points out that it has a jubilee clip on it rather than the Landrover fitting.
I have had a look at Rave and it would seem that it should be a push fitting, although further investigation on the tinterweb would suggest that LR pipes are prone to failure at the join between the rubber and the metal pipes.
Does any one know of a permenant fix or do I just replace the pipes until it happens again, and will the box be OK as I stopped fairly quickly or is it too late and I have cooked it already.
Any thoughts/help/advice greatly appreciated

Yes its a common problem, happened to several vehicles including my own. Its "usually" the passenger side that fails in the way you describe (the crimp simply fails on the flexy part). If it had a jubilee clip on it, then thats not right and its been "bodged" by the previous owner to stop a leak.

Mine did as yours, dumped all the fluid in seconds and the first I knew about it was the revs went up and nothing happened lol.

Replace both pipes and refill the system as per the manual and it should be fine, its not the "ideal way" to drain the autobox, but having it pump it out freely means you would have dumped nearly all 9 litres as opposed to just 4-5 with a drain and refill.

Earlier this year I was visiting England and whilst on the M1 near Ampthill one of the pipes un-screwed itself from the gearbox and dumped all it's oil. I refilled it and it was good for another 8,000kms before I sold it - no long-term damage.
