Disco 1 Rear Shockers

Had a quick look with the search but didnt come up with much.

Basically Ive just started to get a knocking from the o/s rear. I reversed up a snow drift so I didnt have to get on the floor for a look, and it looks as though the mounting bolt on the axle has sheared off. Now Ive not had a proper look cos I couldnt be bothered to roll about the snowy floor, but if this is the case and it has sheared, is it something that cna be repaired or is it a new shocker job??

If so then Id like to use this as an excuse to get a lift kit on it, which brings me to the question of which is the best to get??
Its going to be used as a drive around the doors/toy. It doesnt need to be all singing all dancing competition winning stuff, just a cheap suitable kit for a bit off laning and the odd pay & play.

get the britpart std hieght heavy duty kit including gas shockers about £200 i fitted a lot perfect for handling lift about 1 inch i wouldnt lift it any more unless you have good off road reason, and before everyn one says ****part i have tried and tested them over many years on my own and quite a few others and noboby has said anything but that they where impressed,but i will admit some britpart parts are **** part number da4284

There isn't a mounting bolt on the axle. The bottom of the shock is a threaded pin, which goes through a plate on the axle with a hole in it, with 2 bushes and washers either side and a 19mm nut holding it in place at the bottom.

So, worth looking again at what's broken off.....

That's not too bad then - because you can simply replace the shock absorber. You don't need to worry about welding another plate onto the axle, as TMHM's suggestion above. Beware, the nuts on the shock mount at the top are very prone to snapping off - you might be wise to just buy the mount too, even though they're £46 all in or so, for the pair.

As far as lifting etc goes, my best advice is to replace with standard shocks.

Well I went and bought a new KYB shocker for £32. Came home to fit it and on proper inspection, something I should have done before going and buying the new one, it appeared that the bottom washer was missing and the threaded bit and nut had simply pulled itself into the rubber bushing.

All fixed with a new washer and 10 minutes work. Happy days :5bparty:

Thats a shocker.

I only bought one to get it going again till after the turn of the year when I get back to work. Ive been off since the end of July when I got knocked off my motorbike. So as you might imagine Im mucho skinto!!
