Hi there,

The gear stick on my old Disco 1 won't go from 5 to 4 without first going into 3.

Only and way down - any clues or help very graciously appreciated as i am new to this!!

Thanks CB

i would remove centre consol ,rubber gaiter etc ,2 x large phillips screws on tin cover around lower gear stick, you will see 2 x spirng either side of gear stick these springs should hold gear stick in 3rd 4th gear aligment ,betwwen springs is a plate holding them in position it often breaks off bottom plate and can be rewelded on or replaced its held by 4 x bolts 2 of which also hold springs ,this plate has slotted holes to allow movement for adjustment gear stick wiil naturally go over for 1st 2nd and 5th and rev but needs springs for 3rd 4th,underneath top housing gear stick goes into selector yoke this can come loose on grub screw or ball but i would think bias plate

Thanks - i just went over to that other thread - read it and went to have a look - but soon learned it is not as easy to get to on the disco - now you have explained that to me - many thanks.

I've just replaced my bias plate after it broke at the weekend, the taking out of the centre console is the longest bit, not difficult in the slightest but beware of the springs as you loosen them, they will try to attack you if you are not careful!

A new plate is only £5.00
