Hi, changing all the oils in the disco and reading the review on Diflock Evolution Gear oil it says will stop the notchy gear changes on the disco, just wondering has any one used it and noticed any difference? as it is douple the price of standard gear oil i would love to know if it really is that good! Cheers

r380, yeah i know a few are notchy just seems great if it works but if not ill be wishing i just bought oil at half the price

well had it almost 3 years and only getting round to it now! once i give her a big service ill keep to the service intervals

i am very fond of slick 50 manual gearbox treatment.

it costs about 16 quid from halfrods for a one shot treatment. i have it in my lt77 now and it certainly helps, although as above it's still not great.

this is a PTFE treatment, helps to lower friction between the metals. ive had superb success with it aswell in my civic which i used to track day and drag race, made very hi rev gear changes possible (used to miss gears very easily before hand)

i dont know if the evo 1 products is a PTFE mix, but the slick 50 might work out cheaper for you?

you just add it to the normal MTF94 when you put it in.

Difflock oil helped the gearbox on my 300tdi from 150k - 194k (piston rings went)
Longer drain life,so I left mine in instead of changing every 24k

IMHO dont mess with the oil type in R380 gearbox.....it could make a big difference(i mean involution) if u dont use the proper one.

About a year ago last Aug the gearbox in my 2001 Td5 began to get noisy - and I reckoned it would soon have to come out .
I had the Disco just over a year at the time and it had about 200 K on the clock .
I had the Difflock oils having used them in my 2 previous 300 Tdi's - so I decided to change the oil in the gbox/tbox and diffs in the D2.
Noise stayed much the same for about a week - but then it began to fade and the gearbox is still going well at the moment ( 26K later ) :).
Its getting a bit noisy again - intermittently for some reason - so I'm on the lookout for a box . Have been offered a few D1's - but while they are all R 380's I understand they are not a straight swap .
As I said I used the Difflock oils in 300 Tdi's and it also helped there .
When I drained the box on the Td5 the ATF which came out was a sorry sight .:(

IMHO, the MTF94 is a pretty good oil anyway, and the pricing is almost sensible:
STC9158 is the Land Rover part # for 1 litre, STC9157 is the part # for 5 litre...
