i am looking into maybe converting my 1996 300tdi discovery into a diesel/lpg mixture and was wondering who knew the advantages and disadvantages of this?
cheers

Hi.......I looked into this for a while but it seemed to me that the cost recovery time was quite big because of the smaller savings......how much are the kits you are looking at.........
With prices so high would it not be cheaper still to go down the filtering your oil own at home route....my neighbour did it for five years with free oil from a local food outlet (don't know which one yet) and had no trouble with it until he used the wrong barrel (he freely admmits his mistake) which hadn't "settled" so he got an awful lot off rubbish in the system and his pumps died.......but with the money he saved over five years it wasn't that drastic......and if you could put the money away that you saved on not buying the diesel, your quids in.

Nick.

hey nick the kit i found was 500 quid it was one you installed yourself like but i looked into biodiesel for the 300 and was told by my local land rover specialist that it would cause alot of problems so would it be the same with the oil you are speaking off

Hi........there are a lot of stories but the only down side that i know of is that if you run soley on biodiesel then not all of the lubricants and conditioners are in the fuel so eventually prblems occur as does using dirty oils or the wrong oil.

I will go and see what peeps say elsewhere as i am wondering if maybe i should sell my truck at some point and go back to simple 200tdi technology and use filtered oils and save some serious money......

Nick.

Forget the gas with your TDi.
It only uses a bit of gas to help it burn better it dosnt run on gas.
Anyway gas is not cheap these days at around 80p lt.
Shop around for cheap NEW veg oil.
I ran my 300TDi on a 70/30 veg/derv in the summer no problem and a 50/50 in winter.
I was only paying 80p lt for that but that was 6 months ago.
Just make sure you change the fuel filter after 500-1000 miles and carry a spare.

"Just make sure you change the fuel filter after 500-1000 miles and carry a spare"

How long have you run it for or is it just this year?

Cheers, Nick.

Ran it for 18 months but I made the mistake of selling it.
Its worth keeping a spare just in case as its a 10 min job to swap.

Ive got a V8 on gas at the moment.

61.4 is that gas or veg?

....lpg....i would have a d2 on lpg but i am waiting for the engine to come back....havn't driven a land rover for nearly a month and as reliable as the Mazda Bongo 4x4 camper is, it ain't a Discovery, and every bad driver and his dog wants to be in front of you, which is really annoying as they make the mistake of thinking it's slow....so then you have to overtake em......
