Hello all you discovery type people...:D

Cut a long story short i'm having to sell my Defender Td5, bloody mrs has got herself pregnant but thats another story

In need of a family car now as the 3 seats in the bone shaker will not do anymore...

To say am gutted is an under statement... :(

Thinking of getting a discovery as i believe they are just as good if not better, is there any do's and dont's i should look out for..

Vehicle is used moderate off road, green laning nothing to heavy and my budget is around 6 to 7k

Thanks in advance all your help on this matter is greatly received...

hi,the older discos, are ither 3.9 litre v8(witch will just burn a hole in your pocket),or the 300tdi,or 200 2.5,your choice ,the 300 is smoother, they are good offroad, but they are heavier, and they dont have alot to go wrong ,spares are nice and cheap,(well some times),the discovery 2 is td5,streight 5,or 4.0 litre v8,witch are reliable, had one, not one thing wrong with it in the two years we had it,but the sunroofs, discovery signutre probolem, sunroofs always leak. it might be better to consider an lpg v8 discovery 2,for less than 7k you should pick up a real nice one and still be able to afford to have it lpg converted, and that is realy it unless you want a d3 but ur looking more money for a decent one. :) hope this has helped

How did she do that? Women eh!

Well it happens like this, everyones in a good mood its friday night the wine is flowing by the bucket load, one thing leads to another..... scaring myself now!!!

Anyway back to the car is the Disco Td5 any good, as my Defender has been nothing but 100% reliable...

Bob tailed and lifted yes they're just as good......... wouldn't go as far as saying they were better though ;)

Well to be fair I love my disco 2 td5 and wouldn't swap it for anything else. As for as good as the defender he did say moderate offroading so it'l be as good as the defender there. Also if you tow it'l beat the defender at that anyday, I have towed with them both and in my opinion the disco is way better with the heavy stuff. And as they say much more comfortably. Go for it I say, my family love the old duck, and whenever there is a family outing, they all want to ride with me.

Well, I had a 300TDi for eight years and thought it was great, and three years ago changed it for a TD5, I have changed both the air suspension bags (An easy DIY job) and other the usual fuel regulator leak have nothing but praise for it. I tow a caravan so the self levelling suspension is perfect for this, and the comfort is excellent. I would have no hesitation in getting another TD5 if (Heaven forbid) anything happened to mine.

If you get a TD5 Discovery, then you are,nt going to be alot different than with the Defender !

Same engine, gearbox, ( longer geared ), and transfer box.

Disco,s problem areas are ABS, air suspension and leaky sunroofs.

I,ve got a manual 2002 GS 7 seater, no ACE, no electric sunroofs, no electric seats, and apart from a new set of air springs, its had no more go wrong than my brothers TD5 90 !.

7k will get you a nice one.

I use mine " off road " every day, and I think it is, truely, a great on/off road vehicle.
It can tow 3.5 tons. carry 7 people and do nearly 30 mpg !.

Get one !.

Del.

I must be the only person with a disco 2 with sunroofs that don't leak. (touch wood) that's all I hear about. Am I missing something? Iv had it four years 147000 on the clock & the air bags are still going strong. One thing I clean it like someone with compulsive disorder. So I must be doing something rite. Treat em nice & youl get the same in return.

Personally I prefer manual. But I think it's one of them down to personal preference thingys. Autos are better in traffic, you don't get clutch knee. Manual is better for towing & fuel consumption.
