Am looking to improve performance and possibly fuel econ on a '99 TD5..
Was looking at going down the 'upgrade chip' route and have heard that the Dastek chips are the way to go, had spoken to my local 4x4 garage and they said they could supply a BSI chip for me (about £435 + VAT)
Just wondered if anyone has any experience / thoughts on these two chips.. (did a wee forum search but not much I can see on this)
Tried to get ahold of Dastek in Fife but no joy as yet...

Any thoughts appreciated

Cheers, Kev:D:D

From personal experiance and reading this forum I would recommend two companys.

First, I got my TD5 Disco Remapped by TD5 Alive (now Alive Tuning), Gary does a custom Remap for the car not a generic chip or plug in box and for the money you will get a better result. He's based in Grimsby but you can send him your ECU or head to one of the Landrover Shows down south.

Second, (and I have no experiance just what I've read) is Dyna Chip but I don't know how easy it will be for him as I believe he works from his van so getting him to come up to Scotland may be a problem. But he does get a good write up on here. I sure someone will be on here soon who has had him tune their car.

I have used him and I would suggest you contact Mike at Dynachip tuning, cost for your car would be £250.

He did my previous car, a 2002 TD5 auto and it drove miles better afterwards. The next time I'm in England with the car I will ask him to do my current ride.

Better mpg, better drive - all good.

I have to say I tried a Dastek Chip for a year or two but could never convince myself there was any significant performance gain.
had Mike from dynachip work his magic on my '03MY TD5 and it's like a new motor. More go loww down but it just keeps coming. lost that nasty hesitency when you go to pull off. MPG I don't know yet as I've had the odd fuel leak (!) which I've just got sorted but will be towing the van down to devon next week so be good to see how she feels with that behind.

I think the trouble with the plug in boxes (IMHO) is they just fool the ECU into making different responses rather than the remap which completely changes the ECUs internal programme right through the range.

I had mike from dynachip do my 2000 td5 manual it has transformed the diveability better throttle response much more torque from 1500 rpm and i am getting 13 percent increse on the mpg however i do only drive mostly as normal only using the extra acceleration when needed i feel if you booted it around all the time the mpg would be the same as original but you would have more power
