hi all, firstly id just like to say a big thank you to the guys who have helped me out over the last few months. without your help and advise my disco would probably be a pile of burnt out solihul metal...

is it possible to put a 15p type fuel cooler (the sardine tin type) on a 10p type engine?
i know there are 4 hose posts on the sardine one (15p) opposed to 3 hose posts (10p) on the bean tin type and that the thermostat as another junction connection to accommodate the fourth hose post (i think). now im possibly wrong in my description there but im sure someone will know the exact set up.

Yes. From memory you need to use a T piece and reduce the diameter of the pipe from the T piece to the cooler.

cheers ratty, im looking at swopping mine over and using my mates 53 plate as a template to copy the hoses. hopefully this will work

ive given up on the idea of putting a sardine tin fuel cooler on. ive now got another big problem, the cooling system is over pressurising big time. in the past ive had the head gasket done, another head put on, injector O rings and copper washers, new thermostat, flushed radiator and ive recently just done the water pump but for whatever reason that totally eludes me the cooling system is pressureising which is causing the top hose to push coolant out at the top of radiator where the hose goes. also when i accelaerate in neutral and then come off throttle i can hear water in the matrix as though there is a massive airlock. is it possible i have a massive airlock in the system? if so would this cause the cooling system to pressurise? how do i get rid of the airlock? ive held the header tank high whilst filling system and ive had the screw out of the top hose etc....
any info is very welcome at this stage. many thanks

hi fanatic, just done that and all is well. been scouring the forum for answers on bleeding the matrix but nothin yet. all im getting from anywhere ref my dramas is that the hwad gasket is at fault but ive just had it done

was head crack tested? you either have air lock, circulation issue or a head/block fault.

where are you someone may be able to pop along and look

i had head pressure tested etc when gasket was done. im starting to worry again now as ive spent roughly 2500 over the last year and the f*$king thing still aint right. im in mansfield, north nottinghamshire

I'm taking it that you did have the engine running when you were bleeding it?

How long ago was the headgasket done? Was the head tested and skimmed?

hi ratty, engine was running when system bled, i followed all the correct advice when bleeding but for some reason the matrix is gurgling and the top hose presurising. head and gasket done about 8 weeks ago

What happened in the run up to you getting the HG done? Was it badly overheated?

my previous head was porous so i had another good head sourced, pressure tested and skimmed (i know your not supposed to skim td5 heads) but this was found to be good before and after pressure test and skim. i have recently changed the thermostat and water pump and ive bled system as per the manual etc. i do remember hearing the matrix gurgle when the head was dine nut thought nothing of it, it is still doing the gurgle now only quite loud. i wonder if it needs to be properly bled?

What made you change the waterpump and thermostat AFTER having your HG done? Was it because of the gurgling?

I had over pressurising after having my HG was changed. I had my head skimmed and tested too. Unfortunately the pressure test didn't spot the crack in the inlet side of the head and the other crack in the fuel gallery. Every time the turbo spooled up it would pressurise the coolant system. I also had diesel getting into the coolant.

I ended up getting a new head.

I've kept my old head in my shed because I know that if it was sold it would pass a pressure test and so didn't want anybody else getting fleeced. It'll also get me by if my head goes porous and I need wheels quick.

As a thought I have always loosened hose to remove problem airlocks.

If you can't get rid of it- you need to reassess situation.

Is it a non-aircon TD5? If it is, did you turn the heater controls to maximum whilst you were refilling the cooling system?

changed the water pump cos i thought id got a bad circulation of cooling system but also just for peace of mind. it does have air-con and i did have heaters to full while bleeding. ive been out first thing this morning to check and top up expansion tank and ive had a drive round to get up to temp, the gurgling seems to have eased slightly but when i parked up and checked top hose the bastard thing looked twice its size. im afraid that it looks like the head/head gasket is at fault (AGAIN) which leads me to think that the mechanic may have done something wrong.................
think ill go set fire to bloody thing cos i cant afford to spend anymore money
situation assessed
