So with the UJs fixed on my D2, I'm left with the problem of a deep booming noise that seems to come from the rear of the vehicle at high speed (70-100 mph).

At lower speeds it just seems that I'm getting more road noise than I should, but as I speed up the loud road noise becomes the boom. The noise stays the same even if I take my foot off the accelerator, and goes once I'm below about 60 mph.

The Disco is a well-maintained Gulf specification 7 seat 2002 V8 D2 with 110,000 miles on the clock but FSH, running on springs all round as standard. It's used for a lot of highway work, as a family people carrier school run car and shopping car, and for a bit of camping, and mild desert off-roading.

I recently fitted new shocks (Super Gaz), bushes (Bitpart) , and tyres (Bridgestone Duellers), previously the Disco ran on standard but past it shocks and rubber bushes, and Michelin Synchrones.

  • Could it be that the new set up is stiffer than the old, and therefore lets more road noise through?

  • I didn't change the springs, and the Disco seems to sit a little low, could the springs need changing too?
  • Is there anything else this could be?
As ever, all advice much appreciated.
