OK at the risk of being shot down ,
I went out up the field in my old mans Disco as I tried to climb the bank 1st low steady revs I could feel the tyres slipping and gripping till we lost traction and spun to a halt .:(
Into reverse all feet off and gently back down to the bottom again:)
Now I have never driven a Disco off road before and was surprised that she failed to get up the bank(My freelander has been up this bank several times with TC) So was I useing the wrong technique/gear
any suggestions please
OH and shes on road bias tyres where as the freelander is on ATs
 
Momentum is your friend!

You wouldnt believe the amount of times that gets shouted over the CB when we're out laning.

Take a run up at it and keep the power on as you go up.
 
low 1st will give you too much torque and make the tyres break away which leads you to the problem you had. The TC on the Gaylander, sorry Freelander will have compensated for this. :) As has been said lowbox 2nd gear lots of run up :)
 
You need to travel as slowly as possible but as fast as is necessary :eek:

2nd gear / low / diff lock - power first two thirds and ease off last third.

If failed: brake first, reverse gear and back. If you slip, blip the throttle slightly to regain traction.
