Hi!, I have a 95 Disco 300tdi with 162,000kms. The ride is certainly not as good as when it was new and I have replaced the shocks a couple of times. My question is this....how long do coil springs last? I never use the vehicle off road but the roads here are not the best. I see that most parts dealers for the Disco offer normal springs, heavy duty springs, and of course lifter springs and from this I think that springs could be an issue. I have never replaced a coil spring in my life but am wondering if it would help ride quality? Thanks for any input, Jim

No 5 years is the best you will get out of a spring. Its got nothing with mileage, the spring are still suporting the weight of the car when it is still. new spring are a great thing to fit on a car, make the ride really better.

O dear my RRC was a high mileage vehicle the first sign of worn springs was is leaning over I replaced the rears at 70,000 miles and it was still the same still leaning, then replace the front and we was back to normal.:)
My disco is 13 years old and sill not leaning in any direction do I need to replace the springs?...no.

Fit new standard springs with gas dampers, not a hard job,can be done with out but better with some spring compresors available from motor factors.

For what you require, fitting a new set of standard weight springs should suffice, but what shocks have you been fitting?

My Disco is coming up to 160k and the rear end is sagging (has been since I bought it), in early summer I aim to fit police spec springs (slightly stiffer than standard springs) and gas shocks (mainly as car is normally fully laden with kids, dog's, coal, logs & half the house's content's it seems:doh:) & I seem to be the only one locally who has a decent enough car to recover people when their car's break down.

Thanks for the input from all. The shocks I am using are the Britpart cheapos which are fairly new. I have gone thru the suspension and replaced ALL the bushings etc so dont think there are problems there. Which lead me to think of the only thing left...the springs. I'll check out Rave and see how difficult the changing process is and if its not too difficult I'll go ahead and change them....also may consider the gas shocks. Any brand better than others?
