Ok this is my first post since acquiring a 95(M Plate) 300Tdi 3Dr Disco a couple of weeks ago. The car has 150k on the clock and sailed through its MOT in March with no advisories (no really!, i have the paperwork)

The Disco is great for its year (honestly! :)) but has a distinct clunk when lifting off the clutch during gear changes. Its not particularly bad but certainly noticeable and appears to be coming from the front end of the drive train.

There are no other unusual noises, the gearbox is very direct and the low ratio, diff lock etc all work perfectly. No noises from the wheels or whines/grumbles elsewhere.

Any suggestions as to possible causes would be very welcome. Is this something that i can live with for a while? Thanks in advance. :)

i would check input gear amd mainshaft spline wear ,you can check by removing pto cover on rear of transfer box, also first front prop, drive flanges on either end of axle remove plastic caps

Thanks for the reply. I understand i need to check the prop flanges and ujs. Re the axles do you mean at the road wheel end of the axle by removing the wheel centres?
