Dear all,

I am new to this Disco world, I have had, Series 1,2 and 3's and not to mention a couple of gorgeous defenders, but I have now decided to venture into the disco world and to date, I am over the moon! I love it :D! But ....

1 month on and it is just starting to get emotional.. So some advice please.. Firstly the Chassis. The Mot came back with an advisory on the rear chassis legs for corrosion. Unfortunately, I bought the thing in the pouring rain and did not get a great look! It is looking back to be honest.. The corrosion is mainly along the main underside chassis legs and starting where the tow bar bolts on towards the rear cross member. It seems the owner before me did a quick fix with some putty... Oh dear... I have cleared it all out, placed some corrosion inhibitor and stopped the future rusting, but... Is this going to be sufficient for a successful MOT? As it is along the main chassis legs, is it advisable to weld replacement panels or should I just save up for a replacement chassis? Along these lines, does anyone know of any good land rover people who like working on these gorgeous beasts? I used to do things myself, but a recent back problem has left me pretty useless! Oh I live in Caterham, so as near to here would be handy!

Second issue, Head gasket.. How much do garages normally charge to replace these?? I have never done one on my defender before....

Third Issue.. When I get out the Disco, I usually hear a PSSSSST. Sounds like air suspension valve of sorts... The light has just come on in my dash. The level has not gone down and the suspension rises on demand.. Is it likely that the compressor is getting emotional??

Sorry for the long thread.... Thanks,

MudRat

That's absolutely normal - the height sensors are detecting that the body has risen slightly as you've got out and the system's letting some air out to return it to normal height.

One less worry........
