hi

Wonder if anyone can give a quick answer to the following job I got to do.

I have just added a 12S socket to the towbar of the Discovery that I recently bought.
This is the socket that runs the auxillary equipment on the caravan, I've done all the connections except one. The connection for the battery and fridge which can only be live whilst the engine is running.

I thought I found the ideal connection by the fuse box in the engine compartment, later to find that it was the glowplug feed which is only live for a few seconds.

Im posting this question as there may be someone out there that has already done this job to save me a lot of connection testing and possible blown fuses. :confused2:

If you buy the correct caravan/towing socket, there's a multi-plug just inside the offside rear light ... plug in, bolt to towbar and away you go ... ;)

Sorry ... dunno why I missed the auxiliary socket bit ... forget the above.

I might be wrong but I seem to remember using the switched live feed from the ignition powering a 30A relay with a live feed from the fuse box. This then gives you a reliable, safe and strong auxillary feed!

that would give u a live when ignition is on and not just wen engine was running. is there not an output from alternator or fuel/injetor pump?

i'v been towing my caravan for years and never bothered with the aux socket as i charge it at home then plug in at site, it dont need power wen driving.

thanks for all the advice folks, browsed through a few posts and found one about cigar lighter connection. I then thought hang on a mo, i got a power socket in the boot, tested it for ignition feed and sure enough its only powered when ignition on.

Took a feed from the positive wiring through my relay and hey presto, it all works perfect.
