vehicle was misfiring, local garage (stourport) telling me new loom £350 plus , final bill may be thousands !!!!!! Can anyone help me i clueless on all this. Garage says over 5ft of damage , wires burnt and oil upto the ecu ? they say huge job . Can anyone out there help me on this as i know one thing i do not have these kind of funds to repair, not sure if being led astray. anyone local can do this repair for a reasonable amount. hazel

I have never heard of the ECM loom having burned wires. Oil transmitted down th ewires by capillary action is common tho.
I believe it is usually washed out with petrol or something similar. the ECM connectors also need cleaning out.
I think that the main problem is with the injector loom and not the ECM loom, but others with more knowledge than I can tell you more.

Hello Hazel, the first thing I would be doing is no matter what it took, get your car away from this garage !!!!!!! They are being lazy and may not know Discoverys as well as they would have you believe.

First of all can you please confirm the following:

Year of vehicle:- ?
Engine type:- TDi, TD5 diesel or V8 petrol?
Gearbox:- manual or auto?

This gives us a basis on which to work, so reply asap please

Cheers
Dave

Engine harness(YSB108710), not cheap but it wont bankrupt u, a good OEM one is £160(just replaced mine) so far from £350(even the genuine LR is £215)....it's not a killer to replace it too....i did it alone in about 3 hours without big hurry. So those guys are fookin thiefs.

On the face of it Fery, it's just another example of lazy incompetent rip-off garages. I really really dislike this.

The car I have now was looked after by a 'specialist LR' garage- the only thing they were specialist at doing was ripping-off the previous owner!

Simple example: replacing the 4 filters air, 2x oil and fuel filter £89+vat (LR genuine filter prices) but what was installed you may ask? Britpart ones all 4 - cost £16+vat from Paddocks; maybe even cheaper if you are trade. I reckon this is theft.

Hi Hazel and thank you for the info. I can understand that you feel bound to continue if you gave the go-ahead for the garage to order the engine harness, but I would strongly counsel you to establish with them a time-frame for fitting it, otherwise you will be at their mercy.

So, if it was me I would confirm with them the price they are going to charge you A; for the engine harness and B. for the labour.

Without the VIN I can't be absolutely sure of the part no. - they change dependant on specification and production date:

YSB108710 £259.09+vat

YSB108710 HARNESS ENGINE TD5 | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series

2 hours labour should more than cover it.

Also the injector loom harness AMR6103, can be bought at many outlets for approx £30 inc vat. The genuine Land Rover part is listed at £42.94+vat.

The 2 "O"-rings that cause the problem are: NYX100080 - £1.34+vat each.

Remember Hazel that KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, up to now they have had the power - that does not need to continue !!

Any help or info that I can provide, I will.

Cheers
Dave

Thank you for all the helpful replies. eventually repaired by local garage (at a huge cost) main and injector loom replaced along with fuel pump & filter. Had i looked to this site earlier i could have saved money as believe main engine loom did not need replacing. This is an excellent forum, thanks again
