bought a new set of brake caliper seals for a 300 tdi (95)but cant seem to get the final ring in the groove on the caliper has anyone had this prblem before? or would i be as well leaving it off?

every body has it will work without for a time buts is dirt seal it keeps piston clean so that pressure oil seal dosent get buggered non genuine steel rings are nearly impossible to get in genuine need flat dolly and held square and fitted with one hit if possible but if edges of hole are badly pitted .corroded it wont go in without damage ,rubber seal needs fitting in steel ring before fitting

hi chaps. i have done the same job and i totally agree with jamesmartin use genuine seals only. i ended up putting the dust seal in the original dust seal holder, after carefully removing it. good luck. elt.

I had to leave the ring off when I did a piston and seal replacement many years ago on my RRC, so it's nothing new and now we have forums the info given is use genuine parts.
I went on to do another 50,000 mls with out any problems then the RR was sold.
