Ive just recieved my new brake calipers from Paddocks for my 94 tdi. The L/H caliper looks ok but the R/H calipers thread where the brake pipe connects looks very poor like it didn,t cut properly . Should I send it back or is there a simple solution ?

pics would be helpful

either try to fit it and see what happens, better still try to retap it to clean up the threads, or if youre not arsed just call them and ask to exchange.

id try it forst just to see if it will go in, or maybe call them and ask if its ok to try it in case you cant exchange.

as above, pics!

try it loosely not with spanner would you take it back if it looked like you had cross threaded it ,something very common with brake fittings

I wouldn't try to fix it unless you are confident and have the correct tap. Of you bodge it they will say you did it.

Thanks guys , I will ring them tommorow . Dont wont to take a chance with brakes. Ive bought new discs and calipers for rear axle. Is it a straight forward job to replace them ? Ive got my haynes book and with a bit of help from Landyzone I thought I might have a go myself. Any tips ? Do I need the torque wrench ?

It is a straightforward job as long as you approach it methodically and most importantly cleanly. Make sure you have enough brake fluid and don't get it all over the pads and discs etc. Get a manual and follow it.

Regards torque wrench - depends on your spannering and feel for appropriate tightness - under tighten and it loosens over tighten and it snaps. If you intend doing lots of stuff buy an inexpensive one and build up your tools - rent when you don't want to buy or buy and resell on eBay!
