Hi there, just sold my p38 dse and bought an auto td5. Its got high miles, 174k but receipt for a new engine less than 50k ago, (reason i bought it) Anyhow, i'v just driven 80 miles home and half way through trip noticed heaters started to blow cold...I'v had loads of disco's and p38's so know the signs...Pulled over and checked coolant which was very low, topped it up with 1.5 litres of water and off i went. None of the coolant pipes go hard and you can slowly open expansion bottle cap and no explosions of water.Engine pulls superbly does not miss when stationary...Got home and guess what, no coolant. Any advive greatly appreciated....I'v allready sent some very heated txts to muppet who sold it me and of course he denies responsibility...last time someone ripped me off i revenge was sweet..never sell a duff car from your home address!!
Thanks in advance.

you mean dripping onto ground? Will check in morning as just had an eppy fit and hurled my torch into woods at front of house. Appears to loose 1.5 litres every 30 miles, i'v only driven it 95 miles. Bloke i bought it off claims its never used any coolant before, but he would say that, bought off ebay, he had over 200 stars and no negatives.

no, bang on in the centre. Looked at 9 td5's this week and every single one had low coolant level in header tank, so i wasnt unduly worried by the fact it was three inches below centre line..Car pulls like a train and has had its ecu remapped by td5 alive..hoping it is split hose or something simple and not dreaded cracked head...oil level spot on, no diesel in sump.

Mine did this. First I noticed was no heating because the coolant level had dropped.
Hole at bottom of radiator. Saw it with the top fan cowling removed. Really needs a new radiator but some radiator sealant fixed the problem. Temporarily at least

cheers for advice...Pressure tested it no leaks, but upon looking at radiator as suggested two tiny leaks on both bottom corners and another two tiny leaks on two pipes where they clip onto engine, just driven 30 miles and so far seems ok....seems to tick when hot at idle??

oh bugger, I guess I'll be adding a check to the radiator this weekend, ours looses a bit of coolant when running, hope it is something like a rad or a hose and not the head gasket or cracked head. Engine only done 88K, pulls and sounds fine, temp sits bang on middle and the heater still working fine (I think - wife uses the car not me).

my local indy says he's never replaced a head on a td5, only ever done heagaskets, reckons its all internet fever, he only works on landrover's, he's done quite a few p38 heads, but completely different engine....
