Hi all

Went off roading on Sunday, truck was fine all day no signs of overheating using any oil or water.
Right at the end of the day we had to go down a big long steep hill, so into first and about half way down the truck started to smoke really heavy and the lads behind all said it was blue smoke, then had a 15mile drive back home up and down so steep hills but no sign of any smoke apart from some black on hard acceleration. So I'm not sure where to start to look for problems. Any advice or help have looked on here but seem to get different opinions what it could possibly be?

It's a discovery 1 300tdi

Cheers

Not at all familiar with TDI's... is there anywhere that oil could pool/collect over time and the change of level allowed it to 'flow' into the inlet/cylinders?

Or could the adverse oil level allow oil to be forced past tired valve stem seals?

Hi

This happened going down a big steep mud hill, and was in low range and 1st gear and yes it was under engine breaking so to speak just letting her creep down slow.

There was about another 5 discos that all did the same and no issues with there's so I'm guessing that something is in its way out and warn but have no idea what or where lol

Probably very hard to tell until it breaks, could go on for years occasionally burning a spoonful of oil. Keep topping it up

Could be that due to gradient all oil at front of sump (shallow end) and maybe getting into cylinders 1 & 2 due to worn cylinders, piston rings, & oil scrapers. Possibly, maybe, could do.

Mine did it on a recent trip out, I've since found one of the breather pipes had come off.

it didnt do it on my last laning trip so may be worth checking there not blocked or split.

Cheers will have to check that then if I can find it not very good mechanics wise but wiling to learn well no choice with a landrover lol
