Hi all,
had a search, nothing seems relevant......heater blower stopped working.First thing I noticed was that the lights for that panel had not lit up,tried the blower, nothing.

Checked fuses listed for blower plus fuse box in engine bay.

Had the dash panel out...no mean feat in itself...all connectors on.

Looked at relays, all seated but havent tried replacing yet as not sure which one is the blower.

Dont have Haynes here but DO have LR workshop manual which mentions a resistor behind the glove box.

Would rather not take MORE of the dash to pieces as this is the only vehicle I have on the road and need to drive it later.......

....any ideas?:confused::confused::confused:

No blown fuses, not even the two behind the glovebox.Changed ALL relays including big, rubber covered one attached to blower.Changed ALL switches.

This is REALLY doing my head in.There is power in the main lead to the heavy relay but none out.No power coming in to trigger it.Blower works if contacts jumped. No power at switches connectors. No power to illumination bulb.

Nobody ???

I really need some help here !

Theres no power at the resistor connector. At the heavy relay, if I jump 12v into the blue wire terminal, the blower runs and responds to the switch. But the inside/outside air switch does nothing and I cant detect any current at the plug for it.

All fuses checked over with vehicle running.

I tried testing continuity with the blue wire but it was common to most of the blues at the relay connectors.....so how come the other relays are working and the big blower one isnt?If its the earth how come powering it at the big relay makes the blower work?

I am tempted to run a fused supply to the blower big relay but with the continuity issue I am worried what else will be effected.

I am now extremely confused and upset.

PLEASE HELP

Ok im gonna be first to step in and suggest something you havent tried.

Slave in a different heater control panel, it may be something so simple as the actual control has bit the dust. In the process of taking it out you will see some of the contacts that the switches make. Have a look for any obvious blackening cus something bad has happened

Sounds to me like you've lost the switched live.

I had this on our TDi 300 after swapping out all the components much like yourself.

Rigged a temp positive supply and all was bliss. Rigged a permanent switched supply and it's perfect now.

Check the supply at the rubber covered relay.

Thats what I suspected.....when I put a live feed to the blue wire at the rubber covered relay the blower ran and responded to the 4 position speed control. When I tried the same to the brown....it blew the fused temp live feed. What foxed me was the fact that I got continuity from the blue to all the other blue on the regular relay panel.....so why was that?If it was a common switched live why was it not firing my big rubber covered relay?THATS what made me chary of running a temp fused live to it !

I hate it when I dont understand things. What the hell has suddenly caused this to happen?

HOORAY.....SOLVED IT !

Big Lad,again, put me on the right track with his switched live experience.Thats what I had tentatively suspected....but couldnt reconcile that ALL the middle console functions, like the dash light, would fail from ONE bad wire. Therefore, while not sleeping last night (did I mention that I HATE not understanding something?) I came to the conclusion that the most likely thing was a failed group connector, either at the fusebox or a multiplug in the loom.

This morning I went and ripped out the drivers side under dash trim and rooted about...there are several hanging multiplugs not used in various equipment levels so I had to find one the COULD have a mate within reach. After a while I did,,,,,,but only just in reach. However,it proved (I think) to be the correct one and now all centre dash functions, blower lights an all,are back on line !

Now comes the day-long re-assembly , complete with all the fun of the bits lost in the furious ripping apart phase....like the likkle roller cogs for the drinks tray........

I would like to thank all who viewed this thread and all who weighed in....especially all my fellow EDC sufferers....you know who you are ! :):):):)

PS...Big Lad.....its not spam !:D:D:D

Seriously mate, glad you've got it fixed. Bet you're feeling pretty smart now right?

Don't worry the Landy ghosts have not gone away altogether - they'll be back :D:D:eek::eek::D:D
