A bitch to start when cold or been standing a while!!!!!

My 96 disco tdi has recently developed an issue starting, it all came about when i almost ran out of diesel a few weeks ago. I coasted to a layby and walked the mile or so to a garage. Since this it seems to take forever for her to start up when cold. Any ideas to what this might be and how do i go about sorting it??????? I'm new on here so go gentle with the p**s taking for almost running out of fuel

Thanks for that Wickford90 I have sent him a message and hopefully i can get this sorted cos it's doing my head in. I don't suppose you got any advice on bleeding the beast???? i've tried the ignition to pos 2 nd opening the bleed valve on the filter but nothing seems to happen and certainly no fuel pulls itself through

Have you changed the filterand cleaned out the sedeminter as thats the first thing you should do.IMHO
