Hi guys

Please forgive me for asking a question that's probably been asked a million times but...........what is the best Discovery? My brother, who lives in NZ, desperately wants a Disco and asked ME if I knew - yeah right! I'm gonna know all about which engine's best, which is most reliable, etc, etc.

He did have a look at a 2001 diesel which was as rough as a bag of spanners and had absolutely no poke.

Chuffed to bits that he's going for something with a green oval though :D

You can shout at me if you like ............ I drive a Series so I'm used to being bashed about a bit.

Cheers everyone

PS. Yes, I will be suggesting that my bro joins us on here! Somewhere else for me to abuse him :bounce:

I can only talk about the TD5 Discovery as that is what i have, I have had it a year now and apart from service items it's been a diamond.

Mine is a 2000 ES Auto with the extras Air con, Elec seats, Heated seats, Twin Sunroofs, Heated screen and to much to list here :D:D

I do offroad it have done a few bits like cut the bottom of bumper (valence) off, put steering guard on it.

I have had to replace front propshaft that was worn so thats the only non service part i've had to do..

It's like any car Look after it and it will last

Hey Kazzi!

I got your e mail glad your all doing well! Sorry no reply yet its been Hectic! Andy and myself were competing at the nationals last weekend so away from a decent computer and Pop was on camera duty.

Decent discovery er 300's but a bit old hat nowdays TD5 if he is willing to sort some niggles out before they are reliable. Being in NZ may well have been sorted already and the rot boxes over here usually 200tdi or 300tdi's may well be fine motors over there.

Thanks guys. That's brilliant. Will pass the info on to my baby bruv when I speak to him this weekend! He definitely wants a Disco, saying that they're kinda 'grown up.' I have to educate him - LR/Disco and the words 'grown up' don't belong in the same sentence - I should know, being a older kid with a big toy! Wouldn't have it any other way.

The 4wd's I have seen in NZ have been mostly free of rust which is the biggest problem here in the UK with D1,2 and 3.
If NZ is still importing lots of Jap stuff a D1 might be a very good choice, they arent rusty and are usually high spec with low mileage.Easy to look after and nice to use.
