the belt shredder!

Hi guys,

yesterday for some unknown reason my 300tdi started shredding auxiliary belts. I've had one on for about 20000 miles and when it went i thought fair enough maybe it was worn. so i put a new one on and within 10 miles it had shredded that one too.

the belts didnt snap but shredded a few grooves. I checked the pulleys. None seem stiff, the one that goes onto the injector pump moves slightly but not visibly u can just about feel it so i dont think its that.

The PAS pulley seems to have moved out slightly but i cant move it in and out at all.

Has any one had any problems where the pulley seems to move out suddenly?

The water pump also makes a squeeky noise when it spins but again its not stiff and doesnt have any play.

Will it be a case of new pas pump or is there some way of knocking it back in "aka servicing it"

Mine did this and the PAS pump and the other pulleys seemed ok, next day it shredded again and the PAS pulley moved in and out a good 8mm when I checked it again.

So a new pump fixed that and no trouble since

Mine has also done the same two days ago and i was hopeing i could get away with hitting the spindle back into the pump but i have been told this cant be done to fix the problem but my squeek is from the tensioner and then also found out i have slight movement on the water pump pully so in all a crap week. On the positive side power steering pump from Paddocks is £48 water pump £20 serpentine belt £10 and a £7 bearing for the tensioner if you search under p gasket replacement on this site it gives you photo steps on how to do most of this work so not all bad
