hi all
i have a issue with my disco 97, the right indicator is flashing as if there is a bulb blown yet all three bulbs are working, and to boot the brake lights have stopped working, yet all was fine on saturday when i last used it

i have to press checked all the fuses under the dash and under the bonnet and none have blown

i have fiddled with the brake light sensor just above the pedle and that did not solve anything iether

i think my next plan of action is to check every bulb on the right hand side regarding the indicators to see if there is any corrosion in there making it a pore connection and then fooling the relay into thinking theres a bulb gone

and the brake lights the same thing, if that dont work on them i will disconect the trailer brake light from the car and see if that is the issue

but as i say all was fine on saturday when i used it and the weekend before when i towed the caravan to filey

can anyone help shed some light onto the non working lights and can someone give help in slowing down the indicator lights that have obviously been on some steriods lol

in need of a insiring word or help guys and galls or i staying :behindsofa: till my head aches gone lol

i was thinking the same way jamesmartin, as soon as kids are off to school i'll be getting on with the trailer lights even though the socket looks to be in good condition and we will see what or were i go from there

Shouldn't the indicators be 4 bulbs, front, wing, upper back light and bumper? As for the brake lights i would check the brake light switch on top of the brake pedal.

Not all discos had 2 lights at the back!

Can't see this being a brake switch or individual item, as that would not affect the indicators or brake lights as they were both working OK before and both stopped together it HAS to be a common cause

If its right hand indicator and brake lights wheres the common point?

I agree with jamesmartin and fanatic, check for bad earth and wiring fault, but start at your trailer socket, then earth behind the light cluster

Question is your rear screen wiper working OK?
If not bad earth behind the rear speaker panel

well after about three hours i got it sorted, smarty1972 i forgot that was there but it was flashing just as fast as the other three, i checked all earths then the one on the back door as the wiper worked fine as it should do, i also checked all the pints on the trailer socket and nothing wrong there iether, i then unscrewed the plastic switch for the break light switch that was fine, so now banging my head and so after another coffee break i decided right i will go back to the front and start again, pulling each bulb and using a small suade brush cleaned out evert bulb socket all 4 indicators and all 4 break lights, (what a pian in the a--- getting at the rear light clusters with the dicki seats in place, so out they come to help me keep calm we will say,
gues what nothing absolute nothing no break lights no change on the indicators flash too fast put hazards on work fine, mmmmmm so i thought bugger them for now consentrate on the breaks, so i checked the main wiring loom both top lights had power to them n/s bumper light had power, o/s bumper no power so as i chaced the cable all 24 inches of it i found a small nick that had corroded the wire, a quick snip chace back to good wire and reconect hay presto i have now lights again
so back to the indicators after another tea and bicky snack, i thought right i going to chane every bulb one at a time and test then, i started with the top rear one nothing no change, then the rear bumper one and vwalar the indicaters worked as normal yet the contacts were clean the bulb i had chust taken out was replaced with the same, same markings on the bulb etc, and the bulb had not or no marks or being blown

so i gues a couple of coinstances caravan and two seperate bulb conections being dicky lead to what the hells gone off with the electrics when if they had been at seperate times it would have been a lot let of a head ache
