Since the depature of my old 200TDI Discovery back in 09 due to the fact due to it about to fail its MOT horrendously I had a hankering after another Land Rover.

Like most of us at the mo money is tight so couldn’t stretch to a decent Land Rover. This was until February I was offered a 96 300TDI ES which was written off as a Cat C back at the start 2010 and had been sitting ever since. Spec of it was Full ES spec (leather, air con etc), Southdown snorkel, 2 inch lift, larger tyres and 120k on the clock and on the whole a honest sound motor which was luckily enough to just need a tiny bit of welding.

Damage to it was slight due to the bull bar taking the majority of the hit but this was just removed. After a replacement bumper, passenger headlight / indicator and gearbox oil cooler the damage was fixed. Worst job was removal of the fuel tank where some undesirable had drilled the tank to get the fuel out, new tank went in a treat. Oh and of course a bit of welding to one rear arch and the sills and a full fluid and filter service.

Just sat and calculated the on the road cost including purchase (busy day at work!) with 12 months ticket and 6 months tax and is just over £550 so more than happy with that.

Got a few jobs still to do like fitting a radio, get the front sunroof to work (any ideas how to work out if it’s the control unit or motor), as well as Jate rings, steering guard to be purchased.

Looking forward to getting out and exploring lanes of Herts & Essex with some of the guys off here, (if they will let me lol) as well as hopefully doing some pay and play days (daily driver so nothing to risky)

Pictures to follow
