Back Door/Tailgate

Hi,
The back door won't open on my 94 300tdi. I can lock and unlock it from inside (outer lock has never worked since I had it) and the handle on the inside pulls but the one on the outside seems jammed up. I have tried to remove the door card and spray liberal amounts of WD-40 but no joy so far. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Remove the LR badge from the outer handle casing and you'll see the outer handle, chances are the mechanism just needs cleaning, re-greasing and freeing up with a decent poke from a screwdriver.

i had se problem with mine. i tried taking all door cqrd off and spraying it with no luck. I then tried taking the LR badge off and gave handle mechanism a good spray with WD40 and a VERY gentle tap with a SMALL hammer load of crap and rust fell out and now have a fully working lock and handle

Thanks for the advice guys a gentle(ish) tap or two and some WD40 solved the problem!

after the WD40 usage i then spray the handle with liquid spray grease.This gets all round the linkage before solidifying.

I had the same problem on my D2.

It was corroded and full of crud and the levers spring had given up.

After I released cleaned and re-lubed it, I fitted a spring to the inside lock controll arm, and its all working a treat.

Fit a Disco 2 TD5 rear door, nicer and with better lock mechanism.
Also better anti corrosion qualities....
