Having removed and replaced the gearbox sump, my selector is now indicating the wrong gears... Park is not park, R is Neutral, N is Drive etc... there must be some adjustment but my manual says it's a main dealer job... I think it's lying!

please help! I've not touched anything other than the sump.

where cable goes to box on passenger side is xyz switch which tells ecu what you have selected it is on slotted holes so can be adjusted to fit with display

Cheers... I'll have a look tomorrow...

The whole scenario is the dipstick tube was weeping at the sump connection spiggot... in fact trying to remove the tube caused massive failure at the sump... so sump off and spiggot welded back on... No leak, however sump had to be replaced with tube still in place... (couldn't chance getting tube off spiggot without ripping it off the sump again causing more damage!)

Now thinking tube may be pulling something (kick down cable?) in the engine bay... also big round loom plug hanging down from top of box must be to do with said ECU and selector could be problem!

Thanks for your help.

**** never saw that thought we was talking disco 2,the big round plug should be reverse light wires and inhibitor switch ,plugs in passenger side kick down cable will give poor auto gear shift, bowden cable on side of box is adjustable to fit with selector on console, the easiest way to set is remove 13mm nut holding cable on box selector move box selector till you hear park brake engage put lever on consol in park adjust cable underneath till fits on box selector shaft ,the cable is clamped to passenger side mount for box if pulled from clamp cable position and slection will move so that it doesnt line up box and lever on consol
