Hello

The digital control panel for the aircon on my '54 Disco 2 is only illuminated at night by the central lcd display & the left - & right-hand temperature switches.

Should all the other pushbuttons light up too ?

If so are there user-changeable bulbs inside ?

Thanks

Geoff

Yes and Yes :)

Have a look here -

I've re-posted the content from that link and edited it slightly, as they suggest removing the Radio and its cage, which isn't necessary.

It's easier to remove the ashtray, coin holder and pop-out drinks holder.

Climate Control

Bulbs

The Climate Control on the Discovery 2 uses 3 types of bulb.
3 x JWH100060 light up the LCD
2 x 8510251 (Black Base) light up the Hot/Cold Buttons
1 x JWH100070 (Grey Base) lights up the buttons.

Repair

1) Remove the coin holder and ashtray, undo the six screws and remove the cupholder.
2) Feel up the sides of the Climate Control ECU and there is a clip left and right. Push these in and the Climate Control ECU will pop out.
3) Remove the 3 multi-plugs from the ECU.
4) There are 2 pozi head screws on either side of the unit, unscrew these and carefully split the unit apart.
5) The LCD bulbs twist open easily, the other ones will move if you use a small flat head screwdriver to rotate them placing it in the small plastic loop on either side of the bulb.

The Following Image shows what the bulbs look like-

When I needed to replace some of my Climate Control bulbs, I changed them all while the unit was out.

I've read on other forums that some people have replaced the just the bulb with a generic wire-tailed bulb, re-using the base and the Green 'condom' that covers the bulb.

You could always go for the Rastafarian stylee

It's a good 'how to' video

Although, I'm not sure that his reasons for changing the bulbs would appeal to everyone

I think the bloke in the video was smoking something funny:p but at least I learnt something to, although my lights works just fine

Great feedback guys ... certainly didn't expect the video!

I've got the bulbs ( normal ones ) on order ...looks like an easy task for next weekend

Cheers
