I called in at the local Asda & spied on the shelves 5ltr tubs of 5W30 semi synthetic oil, does anyone know the manufacturer of the aforementioned lubricant?
Nowt on the labels as I could see.

Longshot but you never know.

Gran.

Who cares...;) I'm running my Disco on it, and its doing the job, nice cold start protection and cheap as well. They also had Castrol GTX at half price last week.

Hi Gran, have a look at the specs; is it B1, B2, B3, B4 or B5? I would be running (and do) TD5's on fully synth oil - B5 Carrefour's best.

i,ve been running my disco 300tdi in the semi synthtic asda oil for just short of 12 months.
no problems at all, all ok. :)

however my brother also has a disco 300tdi, he went for the none semi synthetic oil and had problems with the oil being too thin.:eek::eek:
on our way back form hols in burnhan on sea we had to stop the other side of bristol as he has oil warning lights flashing away like crazy.:doh:

we changed the oil and put in the semi synthetic asda oil like mine was running on an all was ok. no further problems ,no oil lights no problems since. :):):p

we will be due shortly to service both disco's again if the semi synthetic oil is still a good price we will be using again.

hope this helps with your decision with your oil choice

If he had a problem with the oil being to thin then he must have used a lower SAE grade as the SAE grade of the oil is the same in semi, part or fully synthetic or minerial oil.
If your brother went for none semi synthetic oil then was it a fully synthetic or minerial oil as SAE40 grade is the same through out.

That Asda 10/40 oil semi synthetic is the same spec as Wilco oil acae A3B3 API sl/cf £11.99 in Wilco £14.00 in Asda. Wonder if it comes from the same place ?
