I'm thinking bout buying one. Ive heard of guys with 350k on theres and still goin strong....

Is this true?

Do the V8's last as long as the diesel's?

If this is the case, 100k is nothing!!

Also has anyone ran alot of miles on LPG with a V8? Any problems???

Cheers

Ben

d3's are still alittle new for this forum to be honest matey, its more 200's 300' and td5's. That said there are afew members on here that do have disco 3's. I did work at a lr dealer for a while, and had issues with the handbrake, clutches failing after 24k, and a switch in the gearbox. The engine seems to be pretty good however

You forgot to mention the suspension pumping up and then not dropping again, Thermostats failing and EGR valves gumming up when the vehicle is used for heavy towing.:p

Handbrake is the most common reason I go out to em though closely followed by pressure release valve blocked on compressor.

steps aside to the master lol. Thats all i heard from the techs as i was just a valeter then. Also that was when the disco3 had just come out.
Cheers for the info thou ratty shall bear that in mind should i ever have the coin to go and buy one

So basically that whole easy 320k thing is absoulute bollocks!!! And 100k is getting on a bit and is gonna cost me some money.......

I best find some more stuff to sell. lol

People say they are nice to drive,I guess thats personal - I dont like them. From a workshop point of view they are an expensive nightmare. A customer recently bought a one owner 4.4v8 with less than 35,000m on it.With it came invoices for ALL the suspension joints which had to be renewed.
Parking brakes,clutches/flywheels,injectors,steering lower shafts, egr valves, turbo's,tailgate cables, trim falling off. All common, all expensive and or difficult to repair.Just done an EPB module on an 06 one,its going to need rear brake pipes on it for the next MOT.
They are just crap.

not necessarily so depends how its done miles lots of motor way work good lots of pottering short journeys bad
Not sure about the high motorway mileage theory. If I had an oportunty to buy a vehicle with say 50k or a 100k I know which I would choose the lower miler. With a high miler all the bits are still wirring about and if it's being used it will wear out.Ok with a low miler on short journeys the clutch will wear quicker and maybe the gearbox a bit more. But if the low miler has had more regular oil change say every 6k then that's the one fer me !!
mines an 02 plate 69k oil / filters changed every 6k

if you look at enough engines gear boxes etc you wiil find that a low miler with short journeys where engine vehicle never get hot, more worn and sludged up than higher miler motor way run vehicle ,wear occurs when started up and cold diesels especially like to be worked i used to strip lr engines used for testing, starship mileage but like new ,mileage isnt necessarily the most important vehicle condition as a whole is

Hi I just came from an indipendant land rover dealer about 3 hrs ago and he is a friend of a friend if you know what I mean. He said to leave well alone, Maintanence cost is astronomical on them, and land rover didn't iron out the usual land rover problems. Hand brake, they leak still & gearbox & transfer problems. And not to mention bloody dash always lights up like a Christmas tree. So the choice is yours. You could have a dog or a gooden. I suppose if it has full service history and receipts of Maintanence, then all the main probs have been done so maybee a high miler isn't as bad after all.
