Hi all, well after a month of glorious driving pleasure  the PAS box is leaking again, the gory details...

The original started ****ing from the sector shaft bottom seal.
Replaced with a recon unit, this had unbalanced power assistance from left to right.
Replacement box has great feel but now started leaking from sector shaft again.

Its about one drip per day, drop arm is wet, i'm checking fluid every few days and it seems ok, not needed topping up yet.

So, does a dry box actually exist or am i looking at a third box in 8 weeks?

Im a bit ****ed off with this as the steering feels great now and i've done the job twice already this year:mad::mad:

Looks like i'll be ringing supplier up i guess and begging for money back so i can order a new OEM unit, i cant be arsed with another recon risk, got holidays coming and we're touring cornwall.

Hello mate, with a post count like yours, you should really know better than to ask if a Land Rover pas box can be leak-free !!!!!

;);););):D:D:D:D:D:D

I know, I know

Just a bit ****ed off with it thats all. It cant be THAT bloody hard to recon a PAS box to last more than a month can it?

I suppose if it was 5 years old it would be ok, but four weeks!

I guess i'll get on the phone and start things moving.

On the other hand...

Just spoke to Adwest, very friendly people.

The list price for a NEW box INCLUDING drop arm is £258 inc vat, plus £28 P&P

I think i would rather go straight to the manufacturer with my cash than ebay.

He also explained that they have modified them now to reduce the chances of sector shaft leaks. They are made to order so not old stock etc :)

Actually, the box in my 90 is leak free.... and I have a spare box in the garage, leak free as well :D

So that's at least 2 known leak free boxes!

Keep it quiet, they are a rare thing apparently

Paddocks are getting NPS to organise collection so i guess its all good to order a new one.

Still a pain in the rectum though.

That sounds good for a proper brand new, no exchange malarkey steering box.

Get it ordered and in, you know you want to:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Thats what i thought.

I will order today, paddocks have agreed to collect/refund too.

I dont want to leave it as it will most likely blow its load on the way to cornwall and screw me holiday up.

Getting quite good at fitting it now, last one took 90 minutes.

Practice makes perfect mate - plus all that weight-training:5bcheers2:

One nice clean PAS box has just landed on my doorstep :)

Excellent service from Adwest, its date stamped as being made last week and the drop arm is already fitted and locked up.

Job for the weekend i think :)

Let that be the end of the leaks (well for a year or two anyway)
