Well after spending a few of the coldest days of the year getting my front wheel bearings, hub and Stub Axle changed, after they collapsed on the M11 last week and I drove home, I decided if I had not got Hyperthermia and the temprature was showing a barmy 0 degree's I would get my worn UJ sorted.

I have had a strange vibration at around 30mph which I though would be the wheel bearing, and as it was still there I had another look at the front UJ's and was supprised I never noticed the play before.

Well after another 3 hours under the car it now drives as smoothly as I would expect a 300 TDI ES Auto to drive.

Not perfect as its 15 years old and has 225000 miles on the clock, but much much better than it has been since I brought it.

So far I have done the following.

New Engine Oil and filter
New Fuel Filter and emptied the catch bottle of lots of murky water.
New rear Brake pads
New rear shocks (Another job done in this recent cold spell)
New front Bearings, Hub and Stub Axle
New Battery
New Alternator
New Glow Plugs
New Brake fluid
New Steering wheel (Old leather one was showing its age and more like suede)
CB Fitted
Engine jetwashed and degreased.
New serpantine belt.

Now I only have the following to do:

New Cambelt ( Priority, but not a daily runner so will minimise use till this is done)
Get injectors sonically cleaned
Change the diff oils
fix oil leak

As this one has no rust issues and seems not to leak to bad I think I will have a goodun once the belt and injectors have been done.

That's quite a list Brian, similar to mine (300 tdi manual), I pick mine up in the morning, had major problems with it over the last 10 days, a mobile mechanic was unable to fix so took it to a garage I stumbled across with a guy who is well into his Landy's and it is less than a mile away (d'oh!)
In two weeks it's had;
Oil, oil filter and air filter change
Fuel filter and new sedimenter
New Fuel lift pump
New alternator belt and tensioner
EGR blanked off
New battery
new fuel filler cap
4 new tyres
greased prop shafts and UJ's
New stereo and aerial
Windscreen chip repaired
A bloody good clean in and out

Will need done for MOT:
Inner wings and might get away with a patch on one sill (might do whole lot to be done with for the foreseeable future)

Other jobs;
Paintwork repair above NSR wheel arch
Replace gearbox oils

Lots of work in 3 weeks of ownership but no regrets and I can't wait to drive 'her' tomorrow and planning a 700 mile round trip to Newcastle (return via Lancashire) this weekend coming!

I know how you feel, I did a full service, all the filters and oils plus new Springs and Shocks all round, rear Brake disks, pads all round, Rear Brake caliper and brake pipes, whilst being snowed on. I ended up putting a patio brolly over me, my fingers were so numb I couldn't feel them... :(

The fingers are the worse. I wore about 6 layers of clothing to keep warm but touching all those freezing metal tools means frost bitten fingers.

Evening! Got my Disco back this morning, went straight for a test drive, wow! What a difference to the low down power, I assume it's a combination of EGR bypass, service, an additive to decoke the engine internals etc, I'm really looking forward to a long run at the weekend

My new Battery arrived today (After being sent via a 24hr courier 29th Nov....)
I was going to see if it will squeeze in place...but it was too cold & got dark...I think thats a Saturday job now....
I noticed today FOS wheelbearing needs "Attention", so I guess that will be a Sat-job too....Luckily, I have the other LR to go to work in for the rest of the week...

I had a careful drive home last night (2am with hardly any traffic) with only the rear brakes working.

Checked the fluid when I got home and the front section of the reservoir was empty, checked the calipers from under the car and the drivers side front caliper was damp and already dripping onto the inside of the wheel.

Thankfully Landrover designed the system so that I had at least some braking, although an emergency stop would have been fun.

Now I need to find a replacement Caliper.

Apart from that I changed my rocker cover gasket and adjusted my tappets, and the engine is running a little smoother and quieter.

Always a job, good you got home safe tho..
