Some may remember mythread about my handbrake sticking on after a long stop. Conclusion was jammed linkage or something else, I knew it was oiled anyway.

Pulled prop off, flange bolt was loose on box output shaft and was flapping about a bit:mad:

Drum off and the reason the shoes were sticking was that the oil was mixed with muck and had turned to treacle! It was like tar in there. Washed it all out, fitted a new oil seal and felt washer with a new nut, tightened it up this time:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I didnt fit new shoes this time as I want to make sure the oil leak is fixed so instead I washed them down well with solvent and put it all back together.

See how it works tomorrow, certainly won't be any worse than it was.:)

Well? We need to know, did it fix it? The suspense is too much...:5blurk5:

Just got in.

Yes it did fix it :) the action is now positive and progressive, no more snagging or sticking on. I guess that the shoes just suctioned onto the drum after a while and took 4-5 seconds to come off again when the lever was released.

I'll keep monitoring the drum for signs of oil incase it needs a new flange, being loose wouldn't have done it any good I'm sure.

I doubt the oil in the shoes will do any harm though, I'll bung some on with my next order maybe.
