Yep, another "oh ****!" moment.

The snow has all gone now, leaving a 2" layer of solid ice on all the roads. I stupidly thought the V8 could go over it fine, since it managed snow OK!

First few streets went OK, then I came do a downhill, pressed on the brake pedal, and all four wheels locked up (front, then shortly after the rear) and it started going sideways, all this time it was getting faster and faster, and the slope was getting steeper and steeper.

I took my foot off the brake pedal and let the wheels spin, then tried to straighten the Landy up.

Luckily, I managed it, so I quickly jammed the brakes back on, and put my hazards on and beeped my horn to warn off any other cars.

The hill slowly leveled out, and 30 feet before a brick wall, the ice stopped and the wheels gripped onto the tarmac and the Landy stopped 7CM from the wall (yes I got my tape measure out and checked! How sad!)

I honestly thought me and the car were dead, but thank God for that patch of ice free road...

After that I slowly backed up, and made my way back home at 5MPH.

I owe my life to that Landy! If it had been any other car that little patch of road wouldn't have been enough to stop the car in time, but the Landy has massive chunky tyres on, so it stopped just in time...

Thank you Land Rover, thank you...

I was going to use the Landy to tow my '71 Pontiac Firebird to the MOT station, but now I think I'll leave it to another day!

i was trickling through the supermarket carpark... came to a stop to let a couple of little old ladies pick there way accross in front... pratt in a clio decides to reverse out of the space on my left... i lent on the horn , he stopped about an inch from my passenger door... the little old ladies next to the horn landed some moments later giving me a very dirty look.
