Hello all, I have a 95 disco and I have a problem. lol this reminds me of my first post on the 3000gt forum. Anyway a while back the wife ran the LR out of oil :( so now I am looking for a new engine and I let the battery run all the way down. well I charged the battery back up so I could move it (it still runs but bearings are shot and I believe a lifter is bad) and hey guess what? the thing has an alarm system  (never worked before) anyway it will not start and it just beeps at me when I try and start it. I don't have a keyless remote to turn it off. Can I just bypass it so it wont work?

thanks, Paul

Hi Paul. YES you can bypass the immobiliser system. You don't say what engine you have? Taking a guess at it being a 300tdi that you are on about?

The immobiliser disables both the fuel solonoid and starter functions

Is it going to be a permanent or temporary solution? You need to run a wire to the fuel solonoid and another to the starter solonoid.

If it is permanent: remove the ignition cowling to gain access to the back of the ignition switch. Run a cable from the starter solonoid to the WHITE wire on the back of the ignition switch. Run another cable from the starter solonoid (RED/WHITE WIRE) to the starter relay in the footwell.

If it is temporary: run a fused cable direct from the battery to the fuel solonoid. Get a short peice of wire (about 6" long). MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF GEAR. Turn the ignition on so that the ignition lights are on (SECOND KEY POSITION). Short the main live feed to starter across to the starter solonoid (RED/WHITE WIRE). As soon as the engine starts remove the shorting wire and keep it safe for next time. When you want to turn engine off. Turn of key and remove the fuse from the fuel solonoid wire you fitted.

Why was this alarm not working before? Did the dead battery cause the computer to reset and start the alarm again? We drove this thing for a year and a half with out the little red light blinking .

BTW it is a 95 with a 3.9 liter engine if that helps.

thanks

In short. YES

There is an emergency overide code that you can enter using the ignition key. If you do not know the code contact your local main stealer and they should give it to you for free. (they may ask for the v5 as proof of ownership).

Getting around the immobiliser on the v8 is basically the same principal to the diesal.
On the v8 I am unsure if the immobiliser cuts power to the coil, the fuel pump or both as well as the starter.

With the ignition on, check you have a 12v feed to the coil. If it doesn't then you will need to run a feed either from the ignition or straight from the battery. (depending on wether you want it to be permanent or temporary).

When you turn the ignition on listen for the tell tale priming of the fuel pump. If it isn't working, yet another lead will be needed from the ignition to the fuel pump relay.

well it started. I don't know if the 3rd time was the charm (it seems like I read it some where when I was searching) of if just putting the key in the door and unlocking it turned it off. but it runs now so any advice on the motor purchase?

btw the babes

Im having trouble with my disco alarm system.the fob was working open and close for 18months ive had it then it started lazy opening it.then stopped opening it.so changed battery in fob.brand bew battery in it.and worked again. Now it stopped working again all together. If i lock with key in door and open with key alarm goes off.i shut door and fob will work lock and open then can start it.if i leave unlicked them get in it.it wont start and will show a key sign and door in red. Then im back to square 1 with locking and set alarm off. Do i need to bypass the immobliser like ypuve stated in the above posts.and remove fuse for central locking so i can start car.

My alarm completely goosed on me and left me stranded luckily got hold of some wire and run from the thick white wire to the solenoid on fuel pump but the key will not start it.it lights dash up but no crank or start.i had a mooch around and found the starter has 2 wires running to the spade sonnection. And have found a start button under the dash board. Which when pressed will power the starter b7t wont start without key. Key in turn to 2nd position and press button starts 1st time.

What can i try to get the starter to work off the key again

Regarding 95 disco immobilized diesel fix and gas engine. I can say that for my 96 gas it worked the same as the diesel. Did not come off white wire at ignition but ran fused power line to starter solenoid from other source and ran new wire from solenoid to starter relay did the trick. Starts with key. No need to worry about fuel pump, coil, etc. in my situation, anyway. My problem was could not reset alarm with any key methods and don't care about alarm so gave up and tried what worked on the diesel.
