clouds of smoke and ACE warning light on,
looks like a burst in the system near the exhaust, the reservoir has emptied so obviously the the leak/smoke has stopped..
is it safe to still use the car, i know the handling will be a little off but i don't want to cause any more problems !!

NO - DO NOT DRIVE IT. The ACE pump will sieze, shred the belt.PAS,water pump etc will stop working. You need to repair it.

thanks .. on closer inspection it looks like the pump has collapsed.
would this cause the loss of fluid or do you think the pump will have failed due to lack of fluid caused by a burst elswhere, the car has only been run about 15 mins after warning coming on (wife with kids in car and she neede to get home!!)

My ACE Emptied and the warning light came on whilst i was pulling in to a service station in Perth on a journey from Sheffield to Ullapool. I thought i,d had it when i saw a pool of hot oil all over the floor, but when the RAC Guy came he just tightened the "Banjo" Bolt, topped it up and i was on my way...apparently its not uncommon

If it's a red light you must not drive it. It will cost you barrowloads of poonds. If it's amber you can drive it, but get it fixed pronto.

pipe found birst on chassis leg below reservior, repaired and system re-filled.
now 100% again thanks for help !!!

was driving Disco 2 td5 on british motorway, speed about 70! oil spraying over back window, oil from ace pump caught alight lead going over top of alternator. Put the flames out with blanket. Pump had seized, secondhandpump £250. Wasn't driving far with pump leak, was it speed that caused it to seize? Also could checking pump at servcing prevented the leak?
