hi i finally bought a td5 disco on a 51 plate (best i could afford!) and love it much better than the freelander or the x trail! but in all this snow my abs tc and hd lights came on last night i have searched some old threads but my question is would it just be the sensors have frozen as i was in high when i was driving and havent used hd or am i unlucky enough to have a proper fault with it? :( many thanks

i have had a look at the 3 amigos but it seems most of the other threads none of the abs tc or hd work, all mine are working normally but i do seem to be stuck in 4wd or thats what it feels like when driving still get the feeling on the brake pedal when the abs cuts in and still hear the noise when the tc goes on and i put it in low and turned on hd and that worked ok too! cant get to landy garage today as car has overturned and blocked the road (typical) but the bottom of my car is caked in snow thats why i wondered if this could affect the sensors? are the sensors expensive for discos? and will i do my lovely car any damage if i keep driving it in the mean time? thanks for all your help

You say that the three lights stay on, but can I just ask:

When starting the car you turn the keys to pos II and all the dashboard warning lights come on - yes?.

Then after a couple of seconds they should all go off - yes?

Then once the glowplug light goes off you start the engine - do any lights come back on?

Do the three amigo lights stay on all the time throughout the procedure?

Hi, the disco is full time four wheel drive. Traction control light will come
on when any wheel slips and then go off when traction is restored, as far as I know, that's what mine does, but no ABS light. ABS light I don't think should come on unless a fault is detected. What's the HD light? Oh! yes Hill Descent. Is that a fault light or just that you have it switched on?

U can drive it without probs,....as said before D2 is permanent 4wd, if the lights are permanently on the most obvious is that u'll have to replace a wheel hub...the one with fault logged on it's sensor(usually front o/s for u)...not cheap at all...........if there is some "shuttle valve ....." error then u have probs with the modulator....it can be refurbished for 200quid.

dont do anything before u see the logged fault code...then u'll know what to do...untill then drive it normally

I am having the same problem at mo, if anyone has a code reader and lives near me I would be very grateful for your help. Its kind of weird as all is working so I can't understand why the amigos have shown their ugly heads. Thanks in advance.

hi i am in Dorset it has been plugged into 2 computers each one giving a different fault, front wheels have been taken off today and i have to get both hub assembleys as they are leaking onto the sensors, i didnt realise they were in 4wd all the time, does anyone have any good suppliers for the hub assembely? landrover want £350 per side and the mechanic managed to source some for £230 per side but im still looking at a £700 bill, someone said to me driving through sand will make them go all the time and i drive through wet muddy sand twice a day to feed horses is this damaging my car?? thanks for all the advice

Hi Tams,
To different diagnostics with two different readings! I wonder the two systems were and what were the different codes.
As you have just got the vehicle I wouldn't think you have damaged going through a drop of muddy water, maybe just worn, what's the mileage of your disco. I don't think oil would affect the sensor either, supposed to be encapsulated I think. Still leaking oil in the brake area is dangerous, so best getting it fixed and might as well put new sensors on while you're at.
More expense! A friend of mine has just had bulb blow on his Audi and had to take it to a dealer to reset the computer as it was unable to tell that he'd put a new bulb in. How bad and mad is that. £££££££££££££'s

I am having same problem with my 04 discovery. "3 amigoes" come on whenever they feel like it - sometimes whilst driving and sometimes after ignition check. My friend has an 03 discovery which does exactly the same - both cars function perfectly ok. Hers has had the shuttle valve replaced which made no difference. Really hacks me off becauseboth these vehicles have been looked at by Landrover specialists (hers on many an occassion) and no-one seems to know what causes it!? There must be plenty out there with same problem so someone must know the fix? I haven't yet approached Landrover direct as I've been told they won't want to know. The problem is if it happens during the mot it will be a failure. Any help appreciated!

hi thanks for replys mileage is 87k have left it at garage until fri have my other halfs 300tdi they are really rubbish compared to my td5! will just have to grin and bear the bill this time, the first computer it was plugged into didnt bring up any fault codes for amigos the second computer brought up something but they didnt give me the fault code just said i needed a hub assembely and it would be £600/£650 for one side the mechanic who has it now took the wheels off to find the faults both sides were leaking one was worse than the other though will let you know if it solves the amigos problem thanks for all your advice

If you look on Ebay you'll see that you can buy new hubs complete for £160 to £180 each.

Hi Tams,
In my opinion, you can discount the first computer diagnostics, it was either a system not suitable for Landrover or whoever was using it didn't know how. The second diagnostics, if you paid to have the diagnostics done, you are entitled to know what it found, it clearly found something. Diagnostics will not tell you that you need new hubs. Unfortunately if they are leaking you do need new hubs, however this might not fix the three amigos problem you have. Keep us informed, and shop around for those hubs. Just out of interest, who was the company who wanted to charge you £650 per side and wouldn't tell you the full results of the diagnostics.
Name and Shame them.
