96 300 TDI Auto Throttle Position Sensor

best of luck, i still have reconnected the wire, and am putting up with the intermittent problem untill i can find a replacement throttle pot........... has any body got one pleassseeee!!

Well, the switch in the return line works a treat for the occasions that the motor misbehaves itself. What I DID find however was that I think my problem comes NOT from the throttle switch itself, but from the plug in the engine side of the bulkhead which it connects to. This was manky with dirt and oil type crud. Cleaning this up seemed to clear the problem. After a couple of K miles, it got dirty again and my problem came back. Cleaning it again and making sure there were no shorts between any wires etc seems to do the trick. I used WD40 and several cotton buds to clean out the connector - it worked for me anyway. I left the switch in place so I can override the fault signal when it happens until I get to clean the connector. Suppose I could put a cover over it to stop it getting dirty in the first place. Food for thought. Hope this helps someone facing a possible £1k bill for the throttle pot'.

I have a similar problem however my TPS cuts out at 2000rpm and back in at 2500rpm with NO check light.

Would cutting the grey and white wire work on mine too.

Please help.

i cut this wire and it stopped the problem exept from the high idle speed changed tps and better now but not much still goes limp now and then

The throttle position sensor is located on the pedal assembly.

It is possible to get set up wrong as the alignment is variable. It has a splined shaft very similar to a windscreen wiper shaft.

It is fiddly to do. You need at least 3 arms and be able to bend in half.

With regard to the kickdown problem that will more likely be a cable adjustment problem or gearbox, sounds silly but don't rule out a mat riding up under the accelerator and restricting travel.

Could you please describe how to replace TPS sensor in the pedal assembly. Unsrewed all bolts on it (it was not simpleJ) but TPS is located in pedal assembly, should i fully remove it?

Hie Cold Comfort Farm. Looked for the post describing how to repair the TPS but did not find it. Please help... My 1997 300 Tdi Disco Auto struggles to go up a hump or brick when driving from stationary position. struggles to pick speed. Revs by itself. Is a pain to start especially in winter. seems to be changing behaviour quite often but for the worse. Have been reading other posts but the technical terms have totally lost me. once took it to a landrover dealer but they could not pick any problem. The car used to take-oof like a cheater but from nowhere it started to struggle. sometimes the turbo kicks in and at times it doesn't or so it seems. It has overheated twice. but I believe there is a miscommunication between the Computer and the various sensors. someone once mentioned mulfunctioning relays but could not pin point which one.

Sorry to say that this thread is over ten years old, Cold Comfort Farm's comment was 3.5 years ago and he hasn't logged on for nearly a year.
