93 200tdi Auto Gearbox

I can select Reverse and go backwards and only go forwards in 1st?? but anything in between will not engage, no Drive, 3rd or 2nd. Anyone know why??

Some thoughts:
Is your gearbox oil level ok?
May be worth checking the gearbox oil filter isnt clogged
Pop the top of the shift lever off and check to see if the clip on the button is intact, they have been know to come off and jam the rod in the handle.
Others may have better ideas!

One of the internal clutch packs is 'stuffed'. I suspect a rebuild is needed.

clutch a is burnt out can be replaced by competent home mechanic as you dont need to strip whole box just behind oil pump housing behind bell (front) housing
