Hello.

I bid on a disco on ebay, im winning it, but have just realised its a 5 seater!!
I dont want to mess about, so if i win it, i will buy it.

I assume its possible to convert them to 7 seats?

Its a 2002 TD5 if it makes a difference.

Any advise it welcome.

Thanks

Hi i dont think you can convert 5 to 7 seater on TD5s seven seaters are on air suspension normally the 5s are on springs that are not hard enough for 7 seats not sure if the seat belt mountings are fitted either
you will have problems with insurance as well as it becomes a modifyed car

taking seats out is not a problem you just have to weld up the mounting holes etc may require a VIC test as well :mad:

Im doing searches on here from old posts.

Doesn't seem to hard, but would want it done properly.

Does a place like Liveridge (based in Solihull) do conversions?

just sold my rear seats and everything needed to convert for £150...leather too. Most es's have got air suspension and thats the only difference between 5 and 7 seats, really easy to convert if allready on air. Personally i'd buy one with 7 seats as it will cost you loads if a 5 seater as all the plastic trim different etc.

just ask the question of the seller and withdraw your bid as you thought it was a 7 seater not a five easy mistake :):)

Wot he said :) theres plenty of 7 seaters about. Jus cancell your bid and look fer a 7 seater. Your passengers wont thank you for makin them sit on dickie seats anyway...not unless they have the backside of a 5 yr old. And if they are for kids, I wouldnt let mine use them as seat belt restraint aint the best.Just my humble opinion yer understand :D

As one of the other guys said if you want to do it properly I can imagine them costing quiet a few bob to fit as the floor panel is different as it has the fitting built in for the seat to lock into, the trim panels are different the headrests fit into the roof, you have no seat belt mounts, AND your 5 seater will have springs 7 seaters have air suspension, and although you can get conversions, if you want to insure it properly also, you will find that sprung 7 seaters will come as not standard and you might have trouble insuring it, I tried this route last year most insurance companies don't have sprung 7 seaters on their data base so a whacking premium was levied for modifying, for some reason a lot more than adding say bigger wheels etc.

As far as the suspension goes, its fairly easy to upgrade to HD springs to accommodate rear seats. However, they would then not be `type approved' and you may have to delare this as a modifiction on insurance ( However, I've been looking (only looking as I've no money at the moment) at the `best of both worlds' as there are now HD `air helper' springs for Disco 2s. Essentially it enables conversion to HD springs, with `helper' air suspension bags inside the springs. My understanding is that you can use the existing airspring hardware.

The conversion is easy as the factory have to make it simple due to the midland monkeys. (My father in law is ex landrover so no having a go at me for the nick names).

anyhow the issue is that the 5 seaters are rated differently than 7 seaters. Suspension etc is different for this reason. Something to do with plating of the vehicle.

I looked at converting my D2 as it was mint but only 5 seats with Air suspension. Insurance company wouldn't entertain it when enquired and garages I went to came back to me with the plating/vehicle rating issue.

Hope this helps

On the bright side, 5 seaters are quite rare and I looked for ages before I found mine. I much prefer it as AFAIC the seats would only take up valuable storage space.

Oh, and 5 seaters were built with air suspension - mine has that on the build record.

I missed a bargain.
I won but had emailed saying i was after a 7 seater so he canceled the transaction.

52 plate TD5, sub 100k miles.. £4100.
Ive emailed saying i will buy it, but no reply..
