Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help.

My 2000 td5 keeps blowing the 40 amp fuse for the fan. This was the reason why it was overheating and losing water, but after some investigative work we found that the fuse was blown. After repeatedly changing the fuse over the past few weeks i was hoping for a reason for them popping all the time. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

1.First check if the blades are'nt blocked somehow, if they are the fuse will blow...lets hope before the motor burns.
2. Unplug the fan for a while if the fuse doesnt blow then u'll need a new fan(or rewind it) ... if the fuse blows with the fan disconnected then look for a short as jamesmartin said

If it's a std TD5 then the engine cooling fan is a viscous coupling type driven by the engine - not electric. Therefore this fuse that keeps blowing would have nothing to do with the engine overheating.

My guess is, again assuming it's a std TD5, that you are referring to the electric fan in front of the radiator. This is for the aircon system and has probably seized up due to lack of use during winter, it' happening to loads of peeps at the mo'.
