afternoon peeps, my 300tdi only has inicators in the rear bumper and i'd like them in the rear light cluster too, would the cluster from a 200tdi fit and work or is it a little more complicated than that?

Its normally the other way round. The 300 normally has them in the cluster and the bumper. Whichever the case im fairly sure it a simple swap job

mines a 300 '98 and were only in the bumper

so got the indicator version and fitted them, (200 or early 300 no difference) lots n eBay
simply unscrew fasteners
pull connector off
refit in other light cluster
refit fasteners

you may not have the correct connector with wiring, but that will be a simple job of running a new wire for indicators (mine was already wired so **** easy)

do a search there are lots of threads about this on here

interesting read this one, i noticed a similar thing the other night when i was following a M reg 300tdi that the tail lights and indicators were only illuminated in the bumper not the rear clusters. My L reg 300tdi has both in the clusters and the bumpers - well almost... a big rock made me remove my bumper but thats not the point!

Hi there, got a 98 Disco GS which only had the indicators and rear lights in the bumper. Got some 200tdi light clusters off fleabay with the lights in and fitted them meself. It's a relatively easy job if your wiring has the six (or seven) pin connectors on them. You'll be able to see as soon as you unclip the connector off the existing cluster. The only pain in the ass is getting to the nuts that fix the light clusters in place. They're a real sod to get at. I've got tiny hands but even I ended up with cuts and scratches from getting the nuts off and back on. Mind you, it's worth the effort, as it's made all the difference to the back end on my Disco. You will probably get a flashing trailer light on the dashboard afterwards when you use the indicators, cos you might also need to change the lighting relay. I haven't bothered meself, cos the light doesn't affect anything (it's just to warn that your trailer electrics are working) and I don't use trailers much.

this is an interesting topic, my 1994 M 300 series disco has sidelights in both the cluster and bumper but only indicators in the bumper.

personally i'm not too bothered about the indicators not being in the cluster because the empty light strip is red and i'm fitting some recovery/warning strobes into them.

another useful thread thanks guys, got 300 tdi that only had tail/indicators in bumpers, after being stop by pc plod !!for having no top tails!!! i decided too swap mine over straight swap for me access bit tight though pass 6/7 seats.

It all depends on disco model year you have. 200 series didn't have bumper lights but as a result of the well documented problem of the Discovery's o/s tail lamp that couldn't be seen sometimes with the back door open the new 300 series had the tail/indicator moved to the bumper, but this wasn't liked and customer feedback prompted Land Rover to offer an upper tail/indicator lamp kit to some owners of the 95MY disco which were then retro fitted by dealers.

From mid 1995 all discos were being fitted with the old 200 series style of lamp so duplicating the lamps in the bumper, and so on untill the 98MY disco which reverted back to the old style.... why who knows perhaps LR ran out of 200 lamps but they did get a high level brake light.

i will be doing this at the weekend 98 d1 as i tow a small trailer which is the same width as the disco and although there is working lights fitted to the trailer any drivers behind can only see the indicators on the trailer when indicating as the trailer covers the indicators on the rear bumper

just a thought guys anyone doing this conversion or have already done it please remember to make sure that the rear bumper has reflectors fitted as the models with indicators in the bumper only will have reflectors in the upper light clusters aswell as the bumper, models with indicators in both the upper lights and bumpers will only have reflectors in the bumper only as it will effect the m.o.t.

hi halo,
i've done this on both of my disco's both 300tdi's.
on boyh of mine i had to feed a wire through to the indicators from the bumper to the light clusters.
it's an easy job should take no more than half an hour
hope this helps

Just done this to my 1994 L reg 95MY disco.
When I bought the rear lamps I asked the seller to send me the plugs with the longest amount of harness he could get at.
The plug can be "popped" open so you can fit the wire with the correct Lucar connector into your existing plug & then join the other end into the harness heading for the bumper lights. correct colours too.

Didn't think about the reflector though!
OK - Reflectors in the bumper end caps.

My dash lights now show me towing so I am on the look-out for the up-rated flasher unit.
